The short answer is, “yes” and it’s one of the most common mistakes made when referring to neurodivergent individuals. Neurodiverse refers to a group of people that contains multiple neurocognitive styles, including neurotypical members. Whereas neurodivergent means having a brain that functions in ways that diverge significantly from the dominant societal standards of “normal.” The following article from the website Planet Neurodivergent does an excellent job of explaining all the terms and their differences.
Dreamzilla is a 501(c)(3) organization that was incorporated in California as a non-profit charity on January 5, 2022. As we are in our first year of operation, it will take some time for us to collect submissions from prospective candidates and award our initial scholarships. While some of our scholarship awards may be documented on our website, the privacy of our recipients is of great importance to us and won’t all be publicized.
We’re excited to share that our organization has earned a 2023 Gold Seal of Transparency with Candid! Now, you can support our work with trust and confidence by viewing our nonprofit profile using the button below:
We love it when we hear stories of people who have big dreams and work hard to achieve them no matter what obstacles may be in their way.
We care deeply about inclusion and diversity. Every individual is unique in their own way, but we can all come together as a society and coexist in harmony. Our logotype represents this aspect of our philosophy with each letter being slightly different, yet upon first glance, creating a clean, unified impression.
Donating through our website will automatically generate an email that includes a link to a tax receipt that displays our tax ID number. While the proceeds from purchases made from our online store also contribute toward our scholarship budgets, they are not tax deductible since you are receiving a good in exchange for your contribution. The profit margin on products sold though our online store is minimal, so the amount to be claimed will not be significant unless you have a bulk order. If you would like to place a bulk order, please contact us with your order number and we can provide you with the details of the actual cost of the product in your order, which you can deduct from your total purchase amount. The difference can be claimed as a charitable contribution in your tax return.
We plan to award scholarships to neurodivergent people who demonstrate they have a passion and talent to succeed in a chosen field but face some obstacles in their pursuit. We are looking for inspiring stories that can not only help an individual achieve their dreams, but also bring awareness to the wonderful skills and talents that many in the neurodivergent community have. Our goal is not to fully fund an education or training, but rather to offer some financial assistance and moral support to help them achieve their efforts.
Applicants should be neurodivergent, have a qualifying ambition in which they are aspiring to succeed, and a stated obstacle that is preventing them from fully-realizing their goal. Examples include: specific equipment required to accomplish a goal, entry or travel fees needed for events that help the candidate improve or demonstrate their skills, assistance toward tuition or professional development courses, etc.
All cash donations will be allocated to scholarship awards, so you can rest assured that your contribution is directly impacting a deserving individual. Please contact us if you would like your donation to contribute toward operational expenses or any other purposes.
